| MacKenzie Mountains Lie along the boundary of the Territories and the Yukon, their peaks rise to 2700 m. and the Mackenzie River which is the longest river in Canada runs northwards along the valley to the Arctic Ocean. There are two National Parks in the Mackenzie district, which are Nahanni in the South west and Wood Buffalo which lies along the Alberta Border. Franklin is the most northerly included amongst its many islands is Baffin Island, where the Worlds only National Park which is inside the Arctic circle can be found, Auyuittuq (meaning the land that never melts), here is the home of the Beluga Whale, lying on the Cumberland Sound is the Inuit town of Pangnirtung, where you can begin your wildlife viewing of Harbour Seals and Beluga Whales by Dog sleigh or foot, with the opportunity to see up close the arctic summer flora and fauna, and as winter approaches the Northern Lights shimmer at their most brilliant. |
